5 all spot on with the cameras micro adjust at +10 but from then on I could not get a focus at all on anything past 2 meters, I got a focus lock every time but focus was way off at all FL's, the micro adjust in camera seems to be a sledgehammer and best left at 0 although my 105 ex macro responded well to this adjustment but it is not a GV lens. I also think that perhaps the SD1M needs a firmware upgrade to bring its autofocus system up to the accuracy that this fairly new (compared to SD1M) lens demands. I think we should remember that this lens is the only f1.8 zoom made and does have a very shallow DoF with which to get a accurate focus lock, adjusting with the dock is almost mandatory for this lens, even then a few out of focus shots will be experienced wide open. 312 meter wide open at f2.8 and the DoF was to my eyes over double that of the 18-35 at f1.8. By comparison I checked my 105 EX OS macro lens at the closest. The glass mentioned previously was all f2.8 which will have a deeper DoF and therefore leeway in getting a focus lock and more forgiving if not quite spot on. The other significant thing I noticed, and maybe is the reason why this lens seems to have focus issues is the extremely shallow depth of field at f1.8 which is the stop I am using for focus adjustment, it is only 4 or 5mm in total making it hard for the SD1M to get a lock particularly if hand held, I of course was using a tripod for this set of adjustments. 35 meter adjustments are in the -15 range, I still have to do the. 28 meter settings ended up on 0 fine tuning with the dock, however the. 28 of a meter would not autofocus at some focal lengths, funny enough all the. Two things are apparent whilst using the dock, firstly I needed to use the in camera micro adjust to +10 or the first. I'll ask Sigma at WPPI and see if anyone knows.įiddling with my 18-35mm on the SD1M at the moment, only half the settings done so far. ![]() I think the reason for the steps is that once you move beyond 0.5 meters there's so little room between that and infinity (in terms of distance to change focus) that the AF microadjustment can't guarantee a good re-adjustment. I had not looked for an update for that lens for a while, I'll have to try updating my 18-35mm.Īnother question I have about Sigmas optimazion software is that you can do focus adjustments at distances 0.28, 0.35, 0.5 and infinity and I got good results on those, but what about 1-2 meters? How can i adjust the focus settings here? It's still not perfect. That's interesting, it could be the patch fixed some other issue you were having or more generally affected AF. Once i updated the firmware in the sigma lens using the USB dock it suddenly became a lot better, not perfect, but better.ĭue to the patch notes this firmware update should only do something when the lens is used with a c100 camera but is it possible that i does more than what Sigma sais? I use a Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 lens together with my Canon 7Dmk2 and I had som serious focusing issues with it.
